Franco Caterina

I am working on a PhD thesis in Architecture titled Architecture of leisure in the post-World War II. The case of the Franco-Italian Alps and funded by a doctoral contract (January 2015-December 2017). The research focuses on the infrastructures for massive tourism built on the Franco-Italian Alps from the late fifties until the mid-seventies. These high-altitude settlements represent an urban model concentrated in space and thought to be self-sufficient. However, after a study of the state of the art and the realization of the current issues of this territory, we propose a re-reading of the history of the construction of these touristic centers through the evolution of their relationships with the context. We shift from the study of an architectural object through the analysis of a system of infrastructure, from the local to the territorial scale. The hypothesis that supports the research considers the connection to the territory as a strategic element to think about the future development of these realities
